A lunch club is calling for new food suppliers to provide meals once a week so it can avoid closing down after 20 years.

Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland’s Oakham lunch club is hoping businesses will come forward to provide hot meals for its members.

The meals have been previously provided by Catmose College and Oakham School but due to other catering commitments they can no longer offer their services.

The lunch club is based at All Saints Church Hall in Church Street, Oakham.

Coordinator Sue Bamber said: “The club has been here for a long time, offering people the chance to enjoy a hot meal and nice company.

“We’ve been looking for a new supplier but no-one has come forward so this is a bit of a last ditch call to local businesses or organisations who can help. We need someone to sign up for the year and provide us with traditional British pub food at a small cost.

“We have a dedicated group of volunteers and 25 members, and it will be a shame if we have to close because everyone enjoys it so much.

“We’ve got one or two others looking to join but they can’t because we don’t know our future.

“We are very grateful however for the service provided by Catmose College and Oakham School.”

The club meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month during school term times.

Those who want to help can get in touch with the club by calling Sue on 01572 770324 or volunteer Charlotte Baker on 01572 787282.
