Oakham novelist releases first book aged 82
A first-time novelist has released his first book at the grand old age of 82.
The Weakest Link by Gerald Botteley, from Oakham, was published by Austin Macauley on Tuesday.
Gerald wrote the story some time ago, but forgot it existed and only recently rediscovered it.
The story follows a university professor, married and a father of two teenage children who, feeling unfulfilled, starts an affair with one of his students.
Though this is for him a fulfilling experience, he is too carried away by its excitement to realise that she is in fact only using him for her own ends.
Gerald, of Cricket Lawns, has already released the novel as an e-book and received some good reviews online. But he is pleased to see the book in a physical form.
He said: “It’s a bit daunting but quite exciting.”
Gerald chose the name of his novel long before the creation of the famous BBC television quiz show.
Writing under the name Januarius, Gerald’s poetry has been published in several anthologies
He will also be hosting a book signing at Walkers Book Shop in High Street, Oakham, from 10am on April 11.
