Two Oakham School pupils have recently celebrated musical success at both national and European level as members of Youth Brass 2000, a youth brass band based in Northamptonshire.

Cornet players, Adam Hebditch from Uppingham and Lizzie Beamish from Stamford performed with the band last month to win the title of National Youth Brass Band Champions 2015.

The musicians were up against tough competition from other top UK youth bands at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, but managed to win the title for the second year running.

Following their win, Adam and Lizzie travelled with the band at the weekend to represent England at the European Youth Brass Band Championships in Freiburg, Germany.

Youth Brass 2000 were awarded second place, with Belgium collecting first prize on a lead of only three points.

As a result of winning the national championships, Adam and Lizzie will travel with the band to represent England at next year’s European championships in Lille.

Youth Brass 2000 welcomes any brass player once they have mastered the basics. They have a full performance schedule of competitions and concerts throughout the year and a tour to northern Spain in the summer.
