Oakham town councillor John Kennedy, who was only elected in November, has resigned.

Mr Kennedy won a by-election for the Oakham North West ward on November 19, receiving 148 votes. The only other candidate, Jim Harrison, received 95 votes. There was a 9.8 per cent turnout with a total of 248 votes cast.

The election was called for the vacant North West ward seat after Rebecca Hearn stepped down.

A notice of vacancy has now been published. A by-election will be held if 10 electors write to the Returning Officer at Catmose, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 6HP by January 15.
