The funeral service for Joy Peers, of Burghley Street, Bourne, took place at Abbey Church of St Peter and St Paul, Bourne, Father Chris Atkinson officiating. Interment followed at Bourne Cemetery.

Joy died peacefully at home surrounded by her family aged 81.

Born in Dyke, she was the third daughter of Eva and Edward Garfoot and attended Dyke village school . On leaving school at the age of 14 she worked at TW Mays and Sons Ltd where she did secretarial work, accounts and answering the switchboard.

Joy enjoyed ballroom and sequence dancing and this is where she met her future husband Neville. They were married on April 23, 1955, at Bourne Abbey Church. Joy later worked at North’s Timberwork and North’s Garden Centre until she retired in 1992.

Joy’s hobbies included, dancing, dressmaking, cross-stitching, knitting, and making jams and pickles. Her favourite past times were playing Scrabble and doing word searches.

A wonderful lady, she never complained during her illness and always had a smile on her face.

She was an amazing mum to Angela and grandma to Kev, Dean and Mark and was very much loved by all her family. She will be greatly missed.
