David Cranfield

DAVID Cranfield, of Main Street, Edenham, died at Peterborough City Hospital, aged 71.

Cremation at Grantham Crematorium was followed by a service of thanksgiving for his life at Edenham Church, Canon A Hawes officiating.

Born in Grantham, the eldest son of Masie and Eric Cranfield, David was brought up on a smallholding and was passionate about outdoor life. In 1947 his brother Christopher (Criff) was born.

David was educated at King’s School, Grantham, and on leaving school at 16 worked on a number of farms before enrolling at Caythorpe Farm College. While at college he met Anne Pexton and they were married in 1964. They moved to Sussex and David took up the role of manager of a dairy farm in Staplecross. It was here that their children Heath, Claire and Lynsey were born.

In 1975 they moved to Wilsthorpe to their own farm, and then to Crowland in 1981, where David’s passion for shire horses began. Finally he settled at Edenham and continued with his love of farming and also enjoyed time spent with his family and friends.
