Jean Tomaselli

THE funeral of Jean Tomaselli, formerly of Church Street, Thurlby and St Peter’s Road, Bourne, took place in Thurlby Methodist Chapel, Ernest Fyche officiated and Aquilla Peasgood was organist. Donations were made, in lieu of flowers, to Dementia Support South Lincs group.

Mrs Tomaselli, 87, died at the Yew Tree Care Home, Dowsby, where her care had been exemplary, and excellent in every way for the five years she was living there after she suffered three strokes. She had also bravely fought Alzheimers for many years.

She was the second daughter of Edward and Rose Lyon, of Lyons Stores, Church Street, Thurlby, and was sister to Dora. She was educated at Thurlby school, leaving at the age of 14. Helping in the family business, grocers and drapers, photographic and coal merchants, Jean became a well versed sales assistant. Singing alto in choirs and playing piano and organ were a large part of her life, and she supported the methodist chapel all her life.

She grew up in the village where she met and married Antonio (Tony) Tomaselli from Sicily, who was billeted nearby during the Second World War. They had three children, Edward, Helen and Stella. Jean made many trips to Italy and gave talks to the Sisterhood in Bourne, speaking about her wonderful holidays, and scenery along the coast and mountains. She also enjoyed knitting for charity.

Jean moved to Bourne in 1999. After the death of Tony she moved to the Yew Tree Car Home, where she was very content and had many visitors. She will be sadly missed by many, she was the kindest soul and friend to everyone.

Bereaved are her three children, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
