Joan Wright

THE funeral service for Joan Wright, of Woodland View, Oakham, took place at All Saints’ Church, Oakham, the Rev Vyvian Wainwright officiating. Cremation at Grantham followed.

Mrs Wright died at Leicester General Hospital aged 88. She was born at Greetham, the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs A Thorold. On leaving school at the age of 14 she went into service, working for both the Hassan family and Dr Reid.

During the Second World War she was a cook with the NAAFI at Woolfox and later became a clerk at the post office counter in Oakham.

On July 1, 1942 she married Lawrence, while he was on leave from the Navy. They shared 54 happy years together until his death in 1996. They had two children, David and Elizabeth.

Family mourners included: Elizabeth Wright (daughter), David and Anne Wright (son and daughter-in-law), Jennifer Robinson, Guy Robinson, Matthew and Rachel Wright (grandson), Andrea and James Prescott (granddaughter).
