John Liquorish

THE funeral of retired crane driver, John Liquorish, of Welland Close, Caldecott, took place at St John’s Church, Caldecott, the Rev Jane Baxter officiating.

Mr Liquorish died at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester, aged 80.

Son of John and Mary Liquorish, he was educated at Uppingham Central School and started his working life as a farm worker. Later he became a lorry and bus driver and finally worked for British Steel, Corby, for more than 25 years, as a crane driver.

He served his National Service from 1950 - 1952 with the Army, mainly in Egypt.

He had a keen interest in mechanical engineering which included car repairs. Before retiring he constructed his own greenhouse, garden pond and conservatory. He enjoyed all sports, particularly football, and was a keen gardener, growing his own vegetables. He also enjoyed UK driving holidays and coach trips.

Bereaved are his widow Rosemary, daughters Jennifer and Madeline and son David.
