Kenneth Shepherd

KENNETH Shepherd, of Beech Avenue, Bourne, died at Addenbrookes Hospital, after a short illness, aged 71.

Ken was born in Foveran, Aberdeenshire to Edith and Charlie Shepherd. He worked on a farm before completing his National Service with the RAF. He decided to continue in the forces as a driver, which brought him to Lincolnshire. It was here he met his future wife, and settled in Bourne and started a family.

Working as a haulier he built up his own company, becoming managing director of haulage contractors Ken Shepherd and Sons Ltd, working with two of his sons Craig and Andrew.

Ken was a hard working and well-respected and loved man who never truly retired from the haulage world. He would often be seen walking his black Labrador, Katie, in a place close to his heart, Bourne Woods.

Ken is survived by his wife, Mary and sons Craig, Duncan and Andrew and their families. He is also survived by his mother, Edith and his brothers, Robert and Ian and sister Marjory. Sadly his brother Eric died last year.

A service was held at Marholm Crematorium, where a single Scottish Piper led the funeral cortege. Donations in lieu of flowers were made to Cancer Research UK and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
