Rachael Pope

RETIRED secretary and school bursar, Rachael Pope, died at Chater Lodge Care Home, Ketton, aged 100.

Daughter of Mr A and Mrs M Pope, she was educated at Stamford High School and Mrs Hoster’s Secretarial College, London. As a child Rachael suffered many painful operations on her ankles, wearing calipers for most of her childhood.

She worked as a secretary and personal assistant to Prof Richie Russel and with the Red Cross service from 1941 to 1958.

She attended Ketton Church and was a member of the Mothers’ Union and Darby and Joan Club.

A talented cello player, she also enjoyed playing tennis, golf and painting in watercolours.

The funeral service took place at St Mary the Virgin Church, Ketton, the Rev Andrew Rayment officiating.
