Ruby D’Arcy

MORE than 100 mourners attended the funeral of landlady Ruby D’Arcy, of The Gate Inn, Bisbrooke, at Bisbrooke Parish Church, the Rev Jane Baxter officiating.

Cremation followed at Kettering. Donations were made to Leicestershire Air Ambulance.

Mrs D’Arcy, 80, landlady for more than 40 years, died at Leicester Royal Infirmary, after a short illness.

Born in Farcet near Peterborough, she was the daughter of local farmer John German and Doris German, and married Peter D’Arcy, a vintner in Peterborough in 1955.

After running licensed premises in the Peterborough area for some years Ruby and her husband purchased The Gate Inn in Bisbrooke in the late 1960s and Ruby has lived and worked at The Gate ever since.

Peter, a prominent local Freemason, died in 1987 aged 53, and Ruby had been the sole proprietor and licensee for the last 23 years.

Before her husband’s death, the couple were well-known in and around Rutland and further afield, providing many outside bar and catering services to major events including Burghley Horse Trials, Huntingdon Races, Uppingham School events and Cottesmore Air Shows, as well as countless local weddings and other events.

Family mourners included: Des Styles (representing Beryl Styles), Lisa Gibson, Gemma Styles (representing Harry Styles), Michael Squires (Glynis Squires).
