Police will stop drivers in Oakham today (Wednesday, November 25) as part of the Fatal4 campaign.

Officers will be in Oakham town centre to monitor motorists. Any seen committing one or more of the Fatal4 offences - speeding, using mobile phones, not wearing seatbelts along and drinking and driving - will be escorted to the Burley Road car park to be dealt with.

Leicestershire Police regularly holds Fatal4 clinics across the force area, driven by community concerns. At the last Oakham Fatal4 operation in April, more than 20 offences were detected, including 12 drivers or passengers not wearing a seatbelt and eight using a mobile phone behind the wheel.

Other offences were also detected, including a driver with an expired licence, and hence no valid insurance, and another driver and passenger who were suspected of drug offences.
