A new homeware shop opened its doors in Oakham High Street on Tuesday.

Stone and Ivy set up in the former CoCo shoe shop at 29 High Street, specialising in rustic and Scandinavian-inspired homeware, as well as associated items and gifts.

Owner Zoe Chawner was persuaded to take her online business - Stone and Ivy Interiors - into the high street after being invited to take part in a pop-up shop in Leicester last year.

"I never really had any intention to open a shop - I just thought running it online was easier," she said.

"Selling things through the pop-up store in the Highcross gave me the inspiration to do it myself."

She added: "My intention is to be plastic-free in terms of the packaging I use.

"Everything I am sourcing is ethically-sourced, mainly from the UK and from local artisans, and will be eco and animal-friendly."

Zoe, who has a diploma in interior design, launched her Bluestone Living business in August 2020 and had looked around a number of properties before plumping for Oakham.

"I looked around a few places, but Oakham was always in the back of my mind," she added.

"I really liked the feeling of the place, and I think people are shopping more locally now and don't want to go to big cities as much.

"There are a couple of interiors shops in Oakham, but my style and influence is quite different so I hope to bring something a bit different to the town."
