There are only two weeks to go until tickets go on sale for LotterySK, which has a weekly £25,000 top prize.

Tickets go on sale from Tuesday, September 18 and the first draw will be on Saturday, October 27.

From each £1 ticket, 60 pence will go to local good causes that work in South Kesteven - more than twice the proportion raised by the National Lottery.

When a participant chooses one of the registered charities or good causes, the organisation will receive a 50 pence donation, with 10 pence going towards a central 'Community Fund'.

If no charity is chosen, all 60 pence goes to the Fund.

So far, 34 local charities and good causes have been approved as beneficiaries of the new weekly, online local lottery.

Seven more charities have recently joined the 27 already approved and include:

- Age Concern Deepings

- Bythams Woodland Trust, The Spinney

- Corby Glen Preschool

- Grantham District Scout Association

- Grantham Autistic Information Network (GAIN)

- Grantham Men's Shed

- The Deepings Library

South Kesteven District Council Deputy Leader, Coun Kelham Cooke, said: "The race is on now for charities to sign up for LotterySK before the first draw in October.

"I would encourage as many of our community organisations to get involved as possible as the more that do, the more will be raised for good causes in our district.

"Voluntary organisations, charities and community groups really are vital to our district, supporting the vulnerable, bringing people together and making our towns and villages, kinder, caring and compassionate places to live.

"LotterySK gives these organisations another way of raising much- needed funds to support the fantastic work they do."

Corby Glen Preschool Manager Susan Hodgson said: "We are a small, friendly, charity-run preschool that has been running for almost 50 years.

"We have joined LotterySK to give us another way of raising funds. We only have to sell a minimum of 20 tickets but we hope to sell many more than that as we know the more we sell the more we will raise for our preschool.

"It was really easy to sign up and I would urge other charities to get involved."

Lottery management company, Gatherwell, has been appointed to run the scheme, having already launched similar lotteries in places such as Melton Mowbray, Corby, Mansfield and Portsmouth.

Gatherwell's managing director, Ben Speare, said: "We are delighted that Gatherwell has been awarded the opportunity to run the new LotterySK.

We're looking forward to helping South Kesteven's local causes in partnership with the council."
