OPENING hours at Rutland’s register office have been extended.
The office, in South Street, Oakham, will now be open for an additional three hours a week.
It is hoped the change will make it easier for residents to register births and deaths.
Councillor Martyn Pocock said: “Registering a birth or death is extremely important and we were increasingly aware that our opening hours made it more difficult than it should be.
“We’re hopeful the additional hours we are opening will make a difference to those using the service.”
The office will now be open from midday to 3.30pm on Monday, from 9am to midday on Tuesday, 9am to 1.30pm on Wednesday and from 9am to midday on Friday.
Rutland County Council is also reminding people of the new option of getting married in a summer house in the grounds of the office.
