AN ENVIRONMENTAL project in Africa will get off to a flying start thanks to the fundraising efforts of a project officer from Rutland Water.
Osprey officer Tim Mackrill ran the Berlin Marathon to raise money to launch a new project in a number of African schools.
He hopes to encourage the children to take an interest in wildlife, particularly the ospreys which migrate between Africa and Rutland each year.
Tim completed the run with workmate Will Kirstein in 3hr 44min.
He said: “The atmosphere on the streets was amazing because there was about a million people watching.”
Will added: “I’ve run a few marathons but this is the best I have done.
“It was nice to cross the finish line together but next time we will be a bit more competitive and I won’t be waiting around for Tim!”
The osprey team will visit Africa in January to deliver the first batch of resources to schools. You can still sponsor Tim at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/timsberlinmarathon
