Bourne Outdoor Swimming Pool opens with a splash
Dozens of people turned out to Bourne Outdoor Swimming Pool on Saturday to mark 100 years since the facility opened.
At 10.30am prompt, children celebrated the opening with a gigantic splash as they lept into the near Olympic-sized pool.
And according to chairman of the Bourne Outdoor Pool commitee Mandy Delaine-Smith, the pool stayed busy throughout Saturday.
She said: "Saturday was absolutely fantastic and it was a busier opening day than normal, no doubt helped by the lovely weather. We had a really good turnout."
As well as a good turnout on Saturday, the pool received another boost in the form of a presentation of £10,000 by the Len Pick Trust.
Together with £11,000 from the committee's own funds, this money has been used to buy new boilers to keep the pool warm - meaning it's perfect for a dip no matter what the weather.
Mandy is hoping that the milestone anniversary will mean people, both from Bourne and further afield, make use of this unique facility.
She said: "We need people to support us and hopefully they will for the 100th anniversary."
There's been no shortage of support from volunteers who had pitched in with getting the pool ready for the opening season and Mandy thanked them all for their help.
It is business as usual for the pool with under 15 fun nights on Friday nights and adult early morning swimming on Saturday morning returning. The only difference is a change of catering firms.
The pool is open Monday to Friday from 12.30pm to 6.30pm and Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays from 10.30am to 6.30pm.
