Bourne Outdoor Pool in Abbey Road reopens after almost two years

An outdoor swimming pool has reopened after being closed due to the pandemic.

Today (July 19), most of the remaining covid restrictions were eased, which has allowed Bourne Outdoor Pool to finally welcome people back through its doors for the first time since 2019.

The first swimmers were able to have a splash at 10.30am today, and the pool will remain open until 6.30pm this evening.

Elaine Barclay, community secretary, said: "We opened this morning and the pool is full. People were queued to get in.

"It's great to see everybody walking in with smiles.

"I'm really pleased we have made it, there were points where we weren't sure."

There is no pre-booking for swims, and today and tomorrow volunteers will only be accepting cash due to the card machine breaking.

While being closed, the pool has had improvements made to it by volunteers, and a new team of lifeguards has been trained.

Elaine has encouraged people to donate to their JustGiving page to help the pool stay open.

She said: "We run as a charity so we rely on donations and volunteers to keep the pool open and running."
