Rutland paramedic does 33-mile charity run along Grantham Canal Path in aid of TASC to mark departure from East Midlands Ambulance Service

A paramedic, who has dedicated 14 years of service to East Midlands Ambulance Service, completed a 33-mile run for charity on Saturday (February 13).

Max Williams, based in Rutland, took on the challenge in aid of TASC - The Ambulance Service Charity.

He ran a stretch of the Grantham Canal Path, starting in Nottingham and finishing in Grantham.

Max said: “There was plenty of snow and ice but I managed to complete the run on Saturday and thanks to everyone’s support we’re now at £1,267.”

Max came up with the idea for the run as he wanted to set himself a challenge while also wanting to mark his departure from EMAS in a very special way.

Max said: “After many years of active service as a frontline paramedic for the ambulance service I came to the realisation that it’s not an easy job.

“There have been times when I have struggled with some of the aspects of my role and have known of other colleagues that have struggled too.

“I have been lucky because I have a wonderful wife and my kids who have been able to pull me up from the low points, but I know that not everyone has someone there to be able to pull them out of the dark times at the end of a challenging shift.”

The next chapter in Max’s clinical career will be working with the Joint Emergency Team (JET) in Huntingdon to provide an urgent response to members of the community that are over the age of 65.

He said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to my friends, family and colleagues who have donated so far and helped me to be able to raise more money than I could have ever expected.

“I am honestly blown-away with the generosity of you all and I appreciate that you all understand the invaluable support that is offered by TASC to our colleagues in green.”
