Thurlby residents had an unexpected visitor this week when a peacock went for a stroll down one of the village streets.

The colourful fowl was spotted wandering around Swift Close on Wednesday. Residents John and Pat Cooper contacted the Mercury and sent in several photos, including the above picture of the bird on top of a roof.

The peacock spent several hours in the street before disappearing in the evening. Residents did not know where it had come from.
