People invited to pay respects to late Rutland county councillor Terry King at funeral
A funeral service for the late Terry King, former councillor and leader of Rutland County Council, is to take place on Wednesday, December 12, at 11.30am.
Countless tributes have been paid to Mr King, who passed away on Friday, November 23, aged 71, following a prolonged illness.
A public funeral service is to be held at St Nicholas Church in Cottesmore on December 12, commencing at 11.30am, and will be open to all those who wish to pay their respects. This will be followed by a reception at Barnsdale Lodge, where guests will be invited to join the family from 12.45pm onwards. Mr King’s family are keen to extend hospitality to all, especially those who may have travelled long distances, and to use this as an opportunity to share memories of him.
Councillor Oliver Hemsley, leader of Rutland County Council, said: “Terry was an immensely popular figure who had strong ties within his community, as well as the wider county and the East Midlands. We know a great many people will want to pay their respects to Terry and wish his family well.
“Terry served Rutland as a councillor for almost 20 years. He was extremely dedicated, kind and cared deeply about the people he represented. We’re hugely grateful for all he did and will miss him greatly.”
Flags outside Rutland County Council remain at half-mast as mark of respect and a two-minute silence is being held ahead of public meetings.
