Inspector for Stamford, Bourne and the Deepings warns of fraudsters posing as police officers

People have been warned to be alert of fraudsters posing as police officers.

The criminals impersonate the police in a bid to swindle people out of money.

Police inspector for Stamford, Bourne and the Deepings, Gary Stewart, said: “No police officer will ever phone you or e-mail you and ask you to transfer funds or pay money to a third party.

"Please report any of these incidents to the police.”

People are urged never to disclose any personal or financial information, including PIN numbers or account details, as a result of an unexpected call.

If unsure as to the identity of a caller, people should end the call, and call back the organisation on a trusted number they have obtained themself.
