Oakham in Bloom launch second annual Rutland Jigsaw Festival

Oakham in Bloom have officially launched their 2020 Rutland Jigsaw Festival.

Sponsored by Gibson’s Games, the second event will take place over the Easter weekend 2020, from April 11 to 13,between 10am and 4pm each day, in the larger venue of the ballroom of Victoria Hall in High Street, Oakham.

The 2020 event includes a competition for the fastest completed jigsaw sponsored by Gates Garden Centre and the prize is £100 of gardening vouchers. Each team will consist of two people and the puzzles will be 500 large piece size so no-one is excluded.

There is no charge for entry into the competition.

Each day there will be a demonstration by Terry Walters, a local dissectologist - jigsaw maker.

Of the launch on Thursday last week, Joyce Lucas, who came up with the idea of the festival this year, said: “We have launched this project early because the long dark evenings is the ideal time to assemble jigsaws.

“We have assembled 70 jigsaws so far but are looking for 300 for our second festival.”

About 800 people visited the inaugural festival this year, including international visitors and coaches from Devon and Yorkshire. It raised more than £1,300 for Oakham in Bloom.

Joyce would be grateful for any donations of puzzles or help with assembling for this year’s event.
