Plans for a permanent building to house a new sixth form in Oakham have been given the go-ahead.

Following a meeting on December 22 at Rutland County Council, the trustees and head of Harington School Dyl Powell announced on Friday last week that its permanent building has been given the go-ahead.

Work will start soon on land next to Catmose College at Huntsmans Drive in Oakham with a view to the buildings being occupied in time for the school’s second year.

The school initially opened its doors in September 2015 based at Catmose College as one of 52 new free schools opening across the country.

Up-to-date drawings of the new buildings and details will be published on Harington’s website.

Due to the popularity of its open evening held last November, Harington School will be holding a second open evening for September 2016 admission. This is intended for those applicants and their families who were unable to attend in the Autumn, or for those who are still deciding on their post-16 education.

Potential students and their parents are invited to come and discuss their future education with Harington’s headteacher and subject specialists on Thursday, February 25.

The open evening will be held at Catmose College on Huntsmans Drive. Guests should park on campus and come to the main reception for registration at 6pm. This will be followed by presentations from the headteacher and the team responsible for pastoral care, the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and the popular Extended Project Qualification (offered by Harington in addition to 17 A Levels and highly regarded by university admissions offices).

There will then be the opportunity to meet A Level subject teachers and current Harington students, who can give the benefit of their unique experience as members of the first ever cohort.

For further information about the Open Evening or admission in general, Harington School can be contacted by email at office@haringtonschool.com or telephone 01572 772579.
