Local bands are being invited to take the plunge and get the party started for this year’s Deeping’s Raft Race.

The popular event is taking place on Sunday, August 2, and organisers say they are well on their way to planning the biggest race ever.

This year’s theme is “Cartoon Characters”, so there is plenty of scope for competitors to dress up as their favourite character and add to the colourful spectacle.

It’s not all just for fun. Charities that are set to benefit include Dementia Support South Lincs and The Exotic Pet Refuge in Deeping St James.

Organiser Andy Pelling said: “We are approaching our loyal sponsors who ensure this event can take place every year, but there is always room for more sponsors.

“We are hoping there are organisations out there who would like to sponsor a race or donate a raffle prize.

“Also, if anyone would like a trade stand at this popular event, please apply through the website.

“Whilst we do now have a strong group of volunteers working on this project – there is an awful lot to do – so anyone willing to help out as a marshall on the day for a couple of hours or in the many tasks during the weeks leading up to the big day should contact us through the website.

“Additionally, any budding local bands that would like to showcase themselves at our pre-raft race music night should get in touch.”

Anyone wishing to help or enter a raft into this unique and fun event should visit the website at www.deepingsraftrace.co.uk for more details.
