Plans to redevelop Stamford Hospital announced including two-storey car park at Ryhall Road as North West Anglia NHS Trust approves selling unused land

North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust has announced new plans to redevelop Stamford Hospital including a two-storey car park after approving plans to sell unused land on the site.

The board of directors has approved plans to sell three areas of unused land on the west end of the site, including an area of car parking. An upper level of car parking will be added at the Ryhall Road entrance with a planning application due to be submitted soon.

It follows the completion of work at the east end of the site.

Dr Kanchan Rege, medical director for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust said: “As a trust, we have a responsibility to manage our estate as efficiently as possible and we have identified areas of the west end of the site which are surplus to our current and future needs. The maintenance cost of this particular area is significantly high, therefore the board has approved plans to sell three areas of unused land.

“The money generated from the sale has to be re-invested in Stamford and Rutland Hospital and we plan on maximising funds for patient care, by investing in vital improvements such as a new MRI scanner or the construction of new procedure rooms to replace the outdated rooms on Greenwood Ward."

The car park situated at the west end of site, at the Uffington Road entrance, is part of the land being sold and the trust is looking at how best to provide alternative car parking.

Dr Rege said: “We are planning to build a single deck on top of the current car park on the east end of the site, near the Ryhall Road entrance and will be submitting the planning application at the end of the month.

"This will be a modern solution to our parking issues and will see new electric charging points and more disabled parking spaces for patients.

“This is an exciting time for Stamford and Rutland Hospital as we work towards improving our services further for our local communities.”

Members of the public are invited to an information event to find out more about the redevelopment plans on Tuesday, February 4, between 6.15pm and 7pm in the Meeting Hall at Stamford and Rutland Hospital.
