Police confirm woman was stabbed

Police have confirmed today, Thursday, that a woman in her fifties was stabbed in the back by a man in Stamford on Friday.

Police were called to Sheep Market in Stamford at about 5.15pm after reports that the woman had been assaulted by a man, who then ran off.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment and released on Saturday.

Police are continuing to make enquiries to trace her assailant.

There were reports on social media all week that the woman had been stabbed during the assault but police said this was not the case until today.

Anyone who was in the area and saw the assault or the man running off is asking to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 319 of July 15.
