Three hooded men broke through a steel shop shutter in Uppingham and stole cigarettes before speeding away in a car.

The raid happened at Martin’s in High Street East at about 3am this morning (Thursday, November 12).

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: “Three men described as wearing black clothing and hoods gained access to the premises by forcing open the front metal shutter. They left shortly afterwards with a quantity of cigarettes, getting into a dark coloured Audi which drove away from the scene in the direction of Glaston Road.

“Police would like to speak to anyone who may know who was responsible or saw the incident or the vehicle involved. Call 101 if you can help.”

Officers are investigating whether there are any CCTV cameras nearby.
