Talented chefs were rewarded for their top class cooking skills at an inter-forces competition.
A team from 3 (MC) Squadron, based at RAF Wittering, won gold and silver medals in Exercise Joint Caterer 2014.
The competition is held annually at the Defence College in Shrivenham, where chefs and stewards from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force compete to hone their professional catering skills and build team spirit.
In addition to entering two teams for the competition element, 3MC Sqn also provided catering for the entire exercise, feeding the many servicemen, civil servants and numerous guests for the three-day competition.
The squadron won gold in the open field kitchen category. The judges said the menu of crispy chicken pancakes with a curried bean sauce, and meatloaf with a caramelized onion and tomato chutney, nailed the brief so completely that they were unable to choose between the two dishes.
They also won silver in the cook and serve category, which tests skills in a formal dining environment.
Mess manager Sgt Pamela Kane, 40, praised her team for bonding well during the competition. She said: “I’m really proud of them.”
