Residents have raised concerns about plans to build 70 holiday cabins near their homes.

Forest Holidays, which was founded by the Forestry Commission, has applied to develop part of Fineshade Woods.

This is the second time the company has submitted an application. The first one was withdrawn in favour of new plans after a number of changes were made to the original design.

But some neighbouring residents have accused Forest Holidays of “forest privatisation by the back door”.

A petition against the development has attracted more than 700 signatures.

Shenagh Hackett, who lives in Fineshade Woods, said: “Because they are the Forestry Commission they don’t have to comply with certain requirements. We are calling for them to be required to carry out formal environmental impact assessments.”
