A MAYOR has taken his chain of office during a civic service yesterday (Sunday).
Market Deeping town councillor Reg Howard, 90, returned to the role of mayor of Market Deeping at a civic service in St Guthlac’s Church.
Coun Howard, of Kesteven Drive, has plenty of experience in the role, having lead the council from 1987 and 1997, and again from 2006 to 2008.
He said: “I’ve always enjoyed being mayor. When you don’t it’s time to stop. I’ve got no time for ageism, I will keep going as long as the people want me and my health holds.”
Coun Howard served in the Royal Navy during the war and was a scientific instrument maker in London before his retirement.
His deputy will be Coun Xanthe Collins, of Horsegate, Deeping St James.
