Councillors debate plans for adult football pitches in Oakham

Have your say

AN application for two adult football pitches was debated by councillors last night (Tuesday).

Rutland County Council’s development control and licensing committee discussed plans for two adult football pitches in Barleythorpe at its meeting.

But members of the committee were split on the application and four members voted for the application to be approved and four voted against it. One councillor abstained from the vote.

Chairman of the committee Charlotte Vernon (Con) had the casting vote and approved the application but a request was made after the vote to refer the application to full council to be discussed.

If three councillors request the application is brought back by this morning, it will be discussed by full council - otherwise the casting vote of Coun Vernon applies and the application will be approved.

If the application is approved, it will be used by Oakham United Football Club, which submitted the application.

An annex to the new Rutland County College Site would be converted for changing room and clubhouse facilities and one of the pitches would be floodlit.

Planning officers had recommended the application be approved.
