A parish council has praised a decision to reject plans for a caravan park.

Rutland County Council refused Leon and Rebecca Bissonnet’s application to change the use of land off Cemetery Lane in Manton from agricultural to a camping and caravan site.

The couple, who live in Edith Weston, wanted to create a site with 20 pitches for campers and 20 pitches for caravans.

But councillors raised concerns about the impact increased traffic would have on the safety of cyclists and pedestrians in Cemetery Lane.

A total of 42 letters of objection were sent to the county council, along with one letter of support.

Manton Parish Council chairman Peter Gooding said the council was pleased with the decision.

The Bissonnets want to appeal against the decision and say they hope to have the paperwork lodged shortly after Christmas.
