STAMFORD AFC has a new German fan.
Volker Krupp, 58, from Schifferstadt in Germany, got in touch with management at the Daniels after finding a balloon from a charity event while cycling near his home.
The balloon was one of almost 500 released by the club in aid of the Afghan Soldiers Trust, the Daniels Foundation and Marie Curie Cancer Care on November 19 last year.
It had travelled about 450 miles before it was found by Herr Krupp, who works for Deautche Telekom.
Trustee of the Daniels Foundation, Guy Walton, said: “We were delighted to hear from Volker and surprised the at the distance the balloon had travelled.”
Trustee Gillian Walker added: “We couldn’t have found a more enthusiastic person. He has become a friend of the club.”
The Daniels sent out a club scarf to Herr Krupp, who is pictured holding it outside the ground of his local team SG 1919 Limburgerhof. He said: “I was proud to show the Stamford AFC scarf.”
The club thinks Herr Krupp is its most distant supporter. But they are keen to know of any other global followers. E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org if you know of supporters living further away.
