A BUILDING firm has moved to reassure town residents about plans for a 400-home development on land between Tinwell Road and Empingham Road in Stamford.
Commercial Estates Group wants to build a mixed use estate on the site which will provide the majority of housing in the town until 2026.
Planning and development manager at the firm, Jon Allen, said: “There can always be resistance to change but we want to engage with the whole community.
“Engagement at a local level has told us that a mixed use development is important, including small scale facilities to benefit existing and new residents.
“The development will provide employment opportunities, community facilities, open space and a range of house types.”
The developer has not yet submitted a planning application, but wants to gather ideas from Stamford residents to help form the estate.
Mr Allen added: “We see this as the start – the district council sees the site as acceptable and we are now looking to take this forward.
“We will consult through a range of methods, including a website and public events, where we will give people a chance to put their own ideas forward and to say what they think of ours.
“A lot of time has been spent in Stamford because it is important to understand the context of the area and where everything is in the town.
“We will use local knowledge to find out what people want from the development. It will be a design-led approach respecting the character of Stamford.
“There are some great building styles and we want to reflect the historic nature of the town in our development. This goes through to the open space provision as well.”
