Plans for a giant pub chain’s move to Oakham have been given the go-ahead by councillors.

JD Wetherspoon was given the green light to move into the former Royal British Legion building in High Street at a Rutland County Council development control and licensing committee meeting yesterday (Tuesday).

The development will cost £1.8m and create about 35 part-time and 15 full-time jobs.

Councillors also approved brewery Everards plans to turn The Horseshoe Inn, in Braunston Road, into a convenience store, despite a petition against it which received more than 600 signatures.
