A COUNTRYSIDE campaign is looking for new members on the back of its successful Christmas quiz.

The Rutland Branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England awarded winners of its 2011 Christmas Quiz last week.

The prize-giving was held at Normanton Park Hotel on the shores of Rutland Water.

The response to the quiz was good and nine entrants were 100 per cent correct.

In order to determine the overall winners a draw was held at the presentation event and three people, Sonia Bagley, Alan Carling and Kitty McLean, each received prizes.

In recent months the branch has been actively supporting the national effort to encourage the Government to amend its draft National Policy and Planning Framework, which threatened unrestrained building across the English countryside.

The Rutland branch is now looking for new members to support its cause and protect the county’s open countryside from development.

Anyone interested in joining the Rutland branch can call Julian Lessey on 01780 410533.
