DEEPINGS MP John Hayes has been appointed Minister of State for Energy in the Government’s cabinet reshuffle.
Mr Hayes, who was previously Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, replaces Charles Hendry in the post.
Matthew Hancock has been appointed as Joint Parliamentary Under Secretary for Business, Innovation and Skills and Further Education.
In 2009, Mr Hayes objected to the building of wind farms in his constituency. He said: “Wind turbines are a terrible intrusion in our flat Fenland landscape.
“Renewable energy needs to pass the twin tests of environmental and economic sustainability and wind power fails on both counts.”
Stamford and Bourne MP Nick Boles has also been tipped for the role of Planning Minister, to replace Greg Clark MP who has been promoted to the Treasury. Speaking this morning (Wednesday) he said he had not yet been offered the job.
Rutland MP Alan Duncan remains in the post of Minister of State for International Development.
