IMPROVEMENTS to parking in Oakham and Uppingham were due to be discussed by a county council committee last night.
Rutland County Council’s places scrutiny panel considered a string of improvements to parking at its meeting last night.
It followed a council parking review, which aimed to make sure the best arrangements are in place for parking in the short, medium and long-term.
The panel recommended that cabinet members approve measures including painting double yellow lines in Stamford Road at the bend within three months.
Other actions which are being recommended to take place within a year include allowing motorists to park in residents’ bays, making the maximum time to stay in short-stay car parks four hours instead of three, removing parking restrictions in Uppingham Road in Oakham, and putting double yellow lines in Woodland View, Oakham.
The panel has asked to be kept updated on the progress and will receive a report in January.
People were asked to send in their ideas on how to improve parking as part of the consultation, which was followed by two public meetings.
