PLANS for a new 1,500-seat stadium for Stamford AFC have been approved.

The club and the Burghley House Preservation Trust applied to demolish the Daniels’ stadium in Kettering Road and build 54 homes on the site, along with 20 affordable homes in Barnack Road.

They also want to build a new 1,500-seater stadium in Ryhall Road. It would include a training pitch, clubhouse, function rooms and office space.

At a meeting yesterday (Tuesday) South Kesteven District Council’s development control committee voted to approve the stadium plans and the application for housing in Barnack Road.

The application to build on the Daniels’ old ground in Kettering Road was deferred so planning officers could talk to the developers about making sure there are no three-storey homes overlooking Stamford station.

Speaking after the meeting, Stamford AFC chairman John Burrows said: “We are delighted with the result.”

All three applications are outline applications and will need more detailed plans submitted before any work can take place.
