A developer has submitted plans to build 37 retirement homes at the site of an agricultural firm in Stamford.

McCarthy & Stone hopes to build the apartments on the site of Sharmans Agricultural in Barnack Road, which is due to relocate t Easton-on-the-Hill in February.

The developer held public exhibitions to explain its plans at the end of 2013 and was pleased to receive positive feedback from 88 per cent of the people who responded.

A few people had raised concerns about the need for more retirement properties in the town and the possible overshadowing of existing properties, but many of the respondents felt it would improve the look of the site.

Regional managing director for McCarthy & Stone, Lorena Brown, said: “We would like to thank those members of the community who took the time to give us their feedback on the proposal, which helped us to refine and improve our plans before submitting the application.

“We’re very encouraged by the positive local feedback we’ve received and have strived to introduce a scheme that will make a positive contribution to the special character of the area whilst improving the range of housing choice available to people in later life.”

The development will be run by a house manager and includes a residents’ lounge and guest accommodation. It will have 27 parking spaces, gardens and trees to improve the look of the site.

South Kesteven District Council will make a decision on the plans.
