Councillors are being advised to approve plans for a new Sainsbury’s store in Oakham at a special meeting.

Rutland County Council’s development control committee will hold an extra meeting on Monday, March 25, to discuss the planning application by the retail giant for a 30,000 sq ft store in Barleythorpe Road, Oakham. As part of the plans, the firm wants to clear the former Rutland County College site where it is proposing to build the store.

Planning officers have recommended the application be approved but with a string of conditions, relating to the firm providing a travel plan, the proposed opening and delivery hours, and the financial contributions the firm will have to make.

The meeting will be held at 6.30pm at the council offices in Catmose, Oakham. People are welcome to attend to hear the discussions.
