Stamford AFC has been granted a licence to serve alcohol and host indoor sporting events at its new ground.
The club applied to South Kesteven District Council for a premises licence for its new home off Ryhall Road.
And on Thursday last week the council’s alcohol, entertainment and late night refreshment licensing committee approved the request.
At the meeting a spokesman for people living near the new ground raised a number of objections to the licence.
They said 100 homes would be directly affected. Residents were concerned about increased crime and anti-social behaviour and said there was “no place in sport” for alcohol.
Concerns were also raised about drink-driving and historic road traffic accidents in Ryhall Road, and an increase in noise and litter.
But councillors decided to grant the licence. The club will be allowed to hold indoor sporting events, serve alcohol and host live music between midday and 11pm from Sunday to Thursday and midday to 12.30am on Friday and Saturday. The start time will be changed to 6pm during term time for New College Stamford, who share the facility.
