Tours at Stamford Town Hall are a success

Have your say

THE number of people enjoying tours at Stamford Town Hall has exceeded expectations.

Stamford Town Council started the free tours on Friday and will be running the hourly tours on Fridays and Mondays during August and September as part of a drive by the council to promote heritage.

Coun Maureen Jalili (LibDem), one of those behind the project, said: “The first day was absolutely brilliant and we have been amazed at the take up, it has exceeded all our expectations.

“We hope it continues in this way.”

The town council is also translating its fact sheets because the tours have attracted people visiting the area from abroad.

Coun Jalili said on a few occasions more than 10 people had turned up so two tours had taken place at the same time, starting from different places.

The guided tours by councillors and volunteers from Stamford U3A take in the Malcolm Sargent room, the court room and the mayor’s parlour.
