Homes and businesses in and around Oakham are without electricity after a power cut.

Western Power Distribution reported the problem at about 6am this morning (Monday).

A company spokesman said an overhead power line had come down near Somerby Equestrian Centre. Initially about 2,200 properties were affected.

The spokesman said the supply was restored to the majority of properties by 9am, and it hoped to have the rest back online by 1pm.
