Preparations are well underway for one of the year’s biggest events in the Deepings - the raft race.

Organisers hope to follow on from a hugely successful 2015, with a similarly successful 2016.

The event will take place on Sunday, August 7, and the theme of ‘Raft Race goes to the Movies’ gives participants plenty of scope to either dress as their favourite film characters, or even better, build their raft based on characters or vehicles from the big screen.

This year, the nominated charities are MECP2 Duplication UK and the Deepings Community Trust.

Andy Pelling, from the raft race team, said: “Entering a raft team is great fun but you can also use it to raise the profile of your group or business and get sponsors to help you raise funds for our charities or one of your own.

“One team raised around £8,000 last year.

“Most of all, we want the public to put this fantastic, fun and very unusual event in their diaries and to come and enjoy the day, which will feature much more than just the raft race.”

Organisers are again approaching the loyal sponsors for support to ensure the event can go ahead but would also love to hear from organisations, which would like to sponsor a race or advertise in the brochue.

Anyone who wishes to book a trade stand is also advised to book early via the website, as places are allocated on a first come first served basis.

Organisers are also hoping to hear from volunteers anyone who would like to get involved - perhaps by marshalling for two-hour slots on the day, or with the many tasks leading up to the event.

Anyone wishing to enter a raft into the race, or get involved in any other way, should visit www.deepingsraftrace.co.uk
