A PUB was evacuated on Saturday after a fire broke out.

About 40 people were in The Grainstore Brewery in Station Approach, Oakham when an electrical fault in the roof space above the kitchen caused the blaze to start at about 5.30pm.

The kitchen extractor fan caught fire and it spread to the rest of the kitchen. The blaze also cut power to the building.

Staff members quickly evacuated the premises while one tackled the blaze with fire extinguishers before fire crews arrived on the scene.

It took 45 minutes to locate the source of the fire but it was contained in the kitchen area by the firefighters. The bar and brewery were only affected by smoke.

Fire crews were at the scene until about 11pm and checked on the premises regularly throughout the night.

The staff member who tackled the blaze was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and minor burns to his arms at hospital.

The pub is closed, but staff are hoping to be up and running in the bar and brewery before the end of the week.
