It might still be Spring but preparations for the Castle Bytham Midsummer Fair and Music Festival are already well-underway.

The Music Festival runs over two days on Saturday and Sunday, June 18 and 19, and runs alongside the popular Castle Bytham Midsummer Fair on theSunday.

Preparations began in earnest in January and organisers are keen to see more people support this event, which sees the usually quaint and quiet village turned into a hive of activity.

The weekend kicks off on the Saturday with a host of local bands playing on the Meadow Stage at St Martin’s Field, including Lexie Green Band, The Fedz and Bianca and The Top Cats on the main stage; and Irene Rae, Robert King, Lil Ian Goodsman and Guitmarmanjan on the acoustic stage.

On Sunday, Rutland band The Tin Pigeons, Pennyless and Rutland Big Band will all be entertaining on the main stage with the aim of the Music Festival to give local bands the chance to entertain audiences of up to 4,000 people.

Elsewhere, the fair will be underway and this year, all the family favourites will be back including the dog show and duck race, a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast (weather dependant), a street fair with about 70 stalls, street entertainment, a beer tent and a barbecue.

Come rain or shine the event will go-ahead with all the music acts inside a giant marquee, including on the Sunday performances, from the village primary school and dance groups. There’s also free car parking.

Chairman of Bythams Music Patrick Candler and Alan Harvey, from the Castle Bytham Midsummer Fair, work closely together and are both keen to see people support this year’s events.

Although the events support local good causes, including the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and the village church, the primary aim is to make sure people have a weekend of fun toremember.
