WORK has begun on the redevelopment of a toddler’s play area in Oakham.

The area at Royces Playing Field, in Princess Avenue, is set for a £50,000 makeover.

Work began on Monday and is due to be finished in four weeks, just before the October half term break.

The play area will include a variety of new equipment for young children up to the age of seven and will feature a new roundabout.

Oakham Town Council is borrowing money to fund the project which will be undertaken by Wicksteed Leisure.

Councillor Adam Lowe, the chairman of Oakham Town Council’s planning and parks committee, said: “This project has taken time to put together but once it is finished it will provide a much needed facility in the area for parents or carers and their children.

“Along with the older children’s play equipment that is already there and the refurbishment of the Fitness Centre, Royces Playing Field will continue to be used and enjoyed by a wide range of people both young and old.”
